In my latest editorial for Global Times, I examine how the US could have — and should have — used its global power in recent decades.
Here’s an excerpt:
…let's confront the harsh truth that the US, as the world's dominant power over the past few decades, could have - and should have - shaped a different global landscape than the one we witness today. In a sense, much like a house that deteriorates when neglected by its owners, the consequences of America's missteps are now glaringly apparent.
Most people around the world are by now aware of the disastrous failures of American foreign policy. But few realise how disastrous America's domestic policy has been. The Greek people have become the second poorest in the EEA, but their average PPP income is about double of the bottom half of the American people. Who, I estimate, have not increased their PPP income in the last 50 years.
